Joint Replacement Surgery Guide

Dr. Romeo is now offering telemedicine consultations. These virtual visits allow you to receive expert evaluation and guidance from the comfort of your home.

Is a Telemedicine Appointment Right for You?

A telemedicine visit may be of value to you if:

  • You are experiencing chronic or acute shoulder or elbow pain
  • You have already had imaging (X-rays, MRI, or CT scans) of the affected area
  • You are seeking a second opinion or want to know if you are a candidate for surgery
  • You have a previous surgical history related to your shoulder or elbow, and are seeking expert review

How Telemedicine Works

About our Telemedicine Setup

  • We use secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing
  • Appointments typically last 15 minutes
  • You’ll speak directly with Dr. Romeo
  • During the visit, he will review your history and imaging and may ask you to demonstrate the problem or limitations that you’re experiencing with your shoulder or elbow (e.g., arm raises, etc.)

What to Expect from a Telemedicine Visit

Most patients will have a clear diagnosis by the end of a telemedicine appointment. If so, Dr. Romeo will be able to develop a treatment plan, which may or may not include surgery.

A few patients will be required to come in for additional assessment before a final treatment decision can be made.

What About a Physical Exam?

Physical exam is often an important part of the diagnostic workup. Fortunately, critical aspects of the examination can be demonstrated by a patient via video conferencing.

Please be ready to demonstrate for Dr. Romeo the area where you have the most symptoms, your ability to move your shoulder or elbow, and other arm activities that define your current limits.
